Make Your Copywriting Piece A Captivating Work of Art

Copywriting Has Become My Art Form of Choice!

Before I became a copywriter, I founded and managed a gourmet foods brokerage company.

I worked with a team of 5 sales reps and employed a full-time office manager to assist us. Our company, called Evergreen Fancy Foods, Inc., represented over 60 product lines, and we serviced over 150 retailers in the Pacific N.W.

As the owner, I enjoyed choosing which product lines to bring on for our team to represent. I based these decisions on many factors, including packaging, pricing, shelf appeal (before the Internet), competition, and perceived demand.

People often ask me, “Why did you leave all that to become a copywriter?”

It’s true; I had created a fun, successful business. We had many happy suppliers and customers, and I paid myself a nice salary twice per month.

I won’t get into all the reasons why I decided to sell my business and leave the food industry.

The main thing was that after 25 years of going through virtually the same yearly cycle (this business had its definite seasons), I wanted something more.

While selling products and working with retail buyers is adventurous in its own way, I often thought, “There has to be a more innovative way to help people and make a living.” I wanted a bigger game to play!

For me, copywriting and content creation have become my favorite creative outlet.

I’m starting from a blank page on Word, and creating a worthy piece of content to help my client become more successful – even in a small way. This piece could be a Brandscript (marketing talking points), a home page wireframe, a nurture email series, a sales letter/page, a case study, a blog article, or some other content piece or sales copy.

I love fashioning something valuable from nothing! Makes me feel like an artist, musician, or poet.

I look at all of my copywriting creations as true works of art. And I’m intent on editing, revising, and making each one shine until I’m proud of each writing project.

And now, as a StoryBrand Guide, I’ve been given a framework to make my content even more compelling.

StoryBrand uses the elements of great stories to create brand narratives that position you as the ‘guide’ and your customers as the ‘heroes’. We do this by showing how you solve your client’s problems & issues. This invites clients into your story more profoundly, which should increase your customer leads and sales.

Thousands of businesses use the StoryBrand framework to help clarify their messaging and create compelling websites and other marketing content.

Having StoryBrand in my toolkit has supercharged my creative copywriting process.

So, the next time you need a copywriter, think of the one who views his craft as a true art form. And is not satisfied until it’s perfect…or pretty darn close😉.
